Pokemon Go is full of different Pokemon of varying shapes and sizes. While many follow their own evolutionary paths, others evolve through stages that culminate in larger, more powerful monsters. Some can evolve with more transient forms that will find them going back to normal after awhile. One such evolutionary form is the Mega Evolution.
Mega Evolving a Pokemon in Pokemon Go means that you’ve temporarily transformed your Pokemon into a bigger, more dangerous version of itself. Its entire form and type may change, it’ll get larger, and it’ll raise in Mega Level over time depending on how much you Mega Evolve. You can receive special bonuses depending on the strength of your Pokemon’s Mega Level.
However, if you’re going to use Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Go, you’ll first need to collect a resource called Mega Energy. It’s an important part of the process, and you can fortunately collect it in a few different ways. But if you’re new to Pokemon Go and have no idea how to get your hands on this type of energy, it might be confusing in regards to getting what you need.
Here’s everything you need to know about Mega Energy so you can Mega Evolve your Pokemon and take out your enemies’ benched monsters with a wave of your hand—or your Pokemon’s hand, really. Either way.
How to Earn Mega Energy in Pokemon Go
If you plan to Mega Evolve a Pokemon, you’ll need to gather Mega Energy, which can be earned several ways:
- Defeating a Mega Evolved Pokemon in a Mega Raid Battle
- Completing research tasks
- Walking with Buddy Pokemon after Mega Evolving a Pokemon in your Buddy Pokemon’s evolutionary family
When you Mega Evolve a Pokemon, you can continue to evolve it later without the need for Mega Energy after resting for a few days. But keep in mind that Mega Energy may only be used for one Pokemon species at a time. If you earn Mega Energy for one Pokemon, it can only be used to Mega Evolve that monster.
Fortunately, if you Mega Evolve a Pokemon for the first time, you may then be able to Mega Evolve a Pokemon without using Mega Energy, so be smart about what you gather and how you use it. You never know when you might need a bit more to push your Pokemon team over the edge and to an easy victory.
Pokemon Go is available to play on iOS and Android for free right now.
